Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) allowed her ignorance of firearms to be put on full display in an interview segment in which she was discussing a bill she introduced to regulate the popular rifle platform.
“I held an AR-15 in my hand, I wish I hadn’t. It is as heavy as 10 boxes that you might be moving. And the bullet that is utilized, a .50 caliber, these kinds of bullets need to be licensed and do not need to be on the street,” said Lee in the press interview.

THESE ARE THE PEOPLE WHO WANT LEGISLATE FIREARMS. They know nothing. To say the ignorance is astounding and terrifying is an understatement.
Is it ignorance? Or is it malevolence? I have a hard time believing someone who WRITES LAWS could be this misinformed.
Unreal.

For my non-gun peeps, claiming an AR-15 shoots .50 caliber bullets is as asinine as saying your car runs on orange juice.
Also, an AR-15 generally weighs somewhere between 7-9 pounds. So if 10 of your moving boxes weight 9 pounds, you're really doing it wrong.

you can see how she got it wrong though. Basically the same. pic.twitter.com/MxSKB0X5cT

All gun control laws are infringements on private property rights, and make it harder for an individual to defend their inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. You don’t need to demonstrate a need in order to exercise a right. If you must first demonstrate a need in order to possess something, it is a privilege, not a right.
It is impossible to have an intelligent conversation with a gun grabber when people like Representative Lee don’t have the slightest idea about the AR-15 platform or how it operates.
Let’s start with the congresswoman’s first fallacy. The AR-15 is not as heavy as ten moving boxes. In fact, the AR-556, a popular model made by Ruger, weighs six-and-a-half pounds. I’m no mathematician, but I don’t think that is anywhere near the weight of ten average-sized moving boxes.
Secondly, Congresswoman Lee’s claim that an AR fires a .50 caliber round is outright laughable. The most popular round for the platform is .223/5.56 NATO. This cartridge, in reality, isn’t too much bigger than a .22 caliber round. The truth of the matter is that the average American’s hunting rifle could do far more damage than an AR-15.
It’s not only misleading, but downright irresponsible for a sitting congresswoman to be so disgustingly uninformed about an issue which directly affects the people she was elected to represent. It doesn’t seem that Mrs. Lee is truly interested in having a conversation about the issues. Instead, she would rather introduce legislation that would do nothing but make it harder for law-abiding Americans to defend themselves.
Antonia Okafor articulated this point beautifully when she said, “Yes, the framers intended We the People to have “weapons of war” Where in the 2nd amendment does it say that civilians can have one form of arms and the govt can have the superior form? If that were true, then what type of equal playing field would that leave us with?”

This is why every single gun law should be resisted. They are nothing but a restriction of an individual’s natural rights. If Representative Lee and her progressive friends were genuinely interested in trying to prevent mass shootings, she wouldn’t be trying to leave Americans defenseless by making it harder for them to protect themselves through more gun control legislation.
If Representative Lee intends to have an honest conversation about the issues, she could at least do Americans the common courtesy of being informed about how a rifle works before she starts trying to convince everyone why the government should keep us from having one.
Maybe then she can show the gun owners of this nation the proper respect they deserve instead of behaving like an ignorant fool who would have us trade our liberty for a false sense of security.
