Dr. Leana Wen, President of Planned Parenthood, was terminated from her position as the president of the organization after a closed-door meeting by the board of directors on Tuesday.
“I just learned that the @PPFA Board ended my employment at a secret meeting. We were engaged in good faith negotiations about my departure based on philosophical differences over the direction and future of Planned Parenthood. My statement to come shortly,” Dr. Wen tweeted at 1:09 pm Tuesday.

Dr. Wen officially released a statement concerning her departure from Planned Parenthood at 1:14 pm Tuesday, stating the reason for her departure being the clinic wanted to focus more on abortion.

“The new Board leadership has determined that the priority of Planned Parenthood moving forward is to double down on abortion rights advocacy,” Wen explained. “With the landscape changing dramatically in the last several months and the right to safe, legal abortion care under attack like never before, I understand the shift in the Board’s prioritization.”
“As a former patient, I will always be grateful to Planned Parenthood for the exceptional health care and education it provided me at a time in my life when I couldn’t get care anywhere else,” she added. “As a physician, I will always be proud to have represented an organization that has taken care of one in three women in America — along with men, LGBTQ people, and people across this country in need of care.” said Wen in her statement.
“To all my colleagues at Planned Parenthood, the tens of thousands of dedicated people who are on the frontlines every day, providing life-saving, life-transforming care and fighting to protect access to that care: you are my heroes. Thank you for what you do.”, tweeted Wen to her coworkers.

Former Planned Parenthood clinic director turned pro-life activist Abby Johnson reached out to Dr. Wen after her termination.
“Leana, I know exactly how Planned Parenthood works and know ALL about their secret meetings. If you ever want to talk about your experience (in complete confidence), I’m here. I will help in any way I can through your transition. ❤️”, said Johnson on Twitter Tuesday.

Gotta believe there is an iron-clad NDA. #FlyOnTheWall

Doesn’t mean she can’t talk to me privately. As long as she doesn’t disclose anything publicly, she would be fine. We deal with NDAs at our ministry all the time.

One can only hope that Planned Parenthood’s termination of its former president for not being a zealot for abortion would serve to wake up the general public to just what the organization means by advocating for a woman’s “right to choose.”
