Principal suspended after forbidding schoolchildren from speaking Spanish (VIDEO)

HEMPSTEAD, TX – Hempstead Independent School District middle school principal Amy Lacey was put on paid administrative leave after Hispanic students reported that she forbid the entire school from speaking Spanish. Students said they were no longer allowed to use the language in order to “prevent disruptions.”

The school superintendent went into damage control and sent a letter home two weeks after the incident insisting that, “neither the district or any campus has any policy prohibiting the speaking of Spanish.”

Sixth-grade student Kiara Lozano said,  “People don’t want to speak it no more, and they don’t want to get caught speaking it because they’re going to get in trouble.”

Eighth-grader Yedhany Gallegos said, “She was like: ‘no speaking Spanish.’ I was like that’s my first language. She said, well you can get out.”
