Congressman Justin Amash (I-MI) appears to be seriously entertaining a bid for the 2020 presidential election, as he indicated on Twitter Monday evening.
Amash sent out a series of tweets in which he criticized President Trump for not understanding his proper authority under the U.S. Constitution.
“‘When somebody’s president of the United States, the authority is total, and that’s the way it’s gotta be.’ —Donald Trump”

The Independent Congressman from Michigan then went on to say that Americans who believe in limited government deserve a better option.

Amash’s criticism of President Trump was sparked by the President’s remarks on Twitter that the he and the federal government had the proper authority to open up the country during this coronavirus crisis rather than governors 0f individual states.
“For the purpose of creating conflict and confusion, some in the Fake News Media are saying that it is the Governors decision to open up the states, not that of the President of the United States & the Federal Government. Let it be fully understood that this is incorrect …….It is the decision of the President, and for many good reasons. With that dbeing said, the Administration and I are working closely with the Governors, and this will continue. A decision by me, in conjunction with the Governors and input from others, will be made shortly!”, Trump tweeted Monday

“President Trump is flat-out wrong. The president has no authority to “close down” or “open up” the states. He’s the one creating conflict and confusion. Put down the authoritarianism and read the Constitution”, Amash said, criticizing Trump for being ignorant of the constitution.
Amash has already received a lot of support on Twitter were he to announce a bid for the White House. He indicated, Monday, that he is looking at it closely this week.
Please be you.

There has been no indication if Amash will run as an Independent or under the banner of a political party should he decide to run.
