California Takes a Step Toward Sanctuary Statehood

On Monday, the California State Senate passed SB 54, named the “Protecting California People & Prosperity Against Immigration Enforcement,” taking it one step closer to making the Golden State the nation’s first border-to-border “sanctuary” for illegal immigrants.

Republican State Senator Joel Anderson of San Diego, who has effectively become the face of opposition to SB 54, is not happy with the continuation saying in a press release, that SB54 will “shield child abusers, human traffickers, and elder abusers from deportation and guarantees their return to our communities. He continued, “Over 31,000 Californians signed our petition and helped force the author to amend SB 54 so that murderers, rapists and child molesters would not be shielded from federal immigration authorities, but as long as felons are protected, we cannot stop fighting.” (RELATED: CA State Sen. SB 54 is being promoted and sponsored by State Senate Pro-Tem Kevin De Leon (D-24 Los Angeles), who says the purpose of the bill is to is to “prevent the use of state and local resources, including personnel, for immigration enforcement; and the creation of a federal registry.” In other words, the bill aims to do what some of the progressive large cities inside the state have already done, which is to shield illegal immigrants from deportation by the federal government by precluding local and state agencies from working in conjunction.

The bill will now move to the State Assembly.
