Prominent Brexit Leader Speaks out on American Presidential Election Candidates
A week ago most Americans were still unaware of Nigel Farage, the man thats spent a quarter century fighting against the EU. Yet now after the “Leave” campaign’s surprising electoral success in last week’s British referendum, he’s caught their attention and is now weighing in on the 2016 presidential election.
Farage, Politico reports, when asked about Clinton was crystal clear, saying that if he were eligible, “There is nothing on Earth that could persuade me ever to vote for Hillary Clinton.” Yet he did not stop there. Farage went on to stress the issue of elitism, of which the poster child is none other than Mrs. Clinton herself. Going so far as to claim,”I mean she represents the pinnacle elite. It’s almost as if she feels she has this sort of divine right to have that job.”
When addressing Trump Farage while not in a full force embrace was at least warmer in his reception of the businessman than of the former secretary of state saying, “Donald Trump dares to talk about things other people want to brush under the carpet,” and, “I think for the United Kingdom, I think Trump will be better for us than Barack Obama’s been. Of that, there is no doubt.” Yet to be clear he did stop short of any endorsement of Trump for the office. He also seemed to downplay the significance of Donald Trump by claiming the problems America faces pale in comparison to the issues Britain has before it. Ha, apparently “the colonies” must just think to much of themselves!
Regardless, Farage’s recent success and statements give us more insight into the international discontent with the political elite and the powerful opposition that is squaring up against it. Which could be good news for Trump and bad news for Clinton if the populist nationalism that drove home the Brexit vote can hop across the pond and show up in American voting booths this coming November. Only time will tell.
