“By accepting this new paradigm of unlimited government as absolute, we have rejected Jefferson’s vision and exceeded Hamilton’s ambition. Perhaps neither man’s preference has actually endured; and a new era, one hostile to traditional liberty, has dawned.”
-Sen. Chris McDaniel
Republicans are now open to having Newt Gingrich as Speaker of the House… yeah…
The current condition of GOP craziness is now in a state of perpetual dementia or Alzheimer’s. Senator Chris McDaniel spoke of this circus in a recent op-ed for Breitbart. Think about it, the original Ron Paul Tea Party movement pointed out the issues with the GOP establishment; then the post 2008 election Tea Party did whatever it could to get Republicans elected. At that point, an all out war broke out between the populist conservative Tea Partiers, the libertarian insurgents, and the establishment Republicans. Just when things were supposed to get better, with the GOP victory in 2014 intended to change the course of the party. But the establishment still holds onto the reins.
With McCarthy dropping out, Republican infighting has increased has the party tries to find a suitable Speaker of the House. The battle has sharpened the lines of division within the GOP. Even members of the Freedom Caucus are starting to jump ship, like Rep. Reid Ribble. In an interview with the Hill, Ribble explained his reasoning for leaving:
“I was a member of the Freedom Caucus in the very beginning because we were focused on making the process reforms to get every Member’s voice heard and advance conservative policy…When the Speaker resigned and they pivoted to focusing on the leadership race, I withdrew. I spent thirty years as a leader in the private sector, and I have a clear idea of the qualities that a leader will need to unite our Conference.”
“He would be the individual that would come closest to what I’ve tried to do, but I don’t want to be held to that to defend everything that he might’ve said.”
