Why hiring a crime victim advocate beats going for personal justice

If you have been the victim of a crime, then it is natural that you will feel nervous. Crime is something we all want to avoid being victims of, naturally. However, we live in a world where many people make decisions that go against what we would typically expect. Therefore, when someone carries out a crime, and you are the victim, it can feel “right” to want to deal with the problem on your own.

And while that might make sense, it never quite plays out the way we hoped it would in our heads. Instead, it is better to acknowledge that you should hire a crime victim advocate when you have been the victim of a crime.

Most of the time, you might wish to take things down the legal route. Someone has broken the law and committed a crime against you; you naturally will want some kind of justice. That said, even if there is a criminal prosecution, you can still pick for civil justice. Civil lawsuits are ideal for victims of crime who have been wronged. With their help, you can ensure that the person who wronged you is held properly accountable.

Personal justice sounds good in your mind, but retribution rarely, if ever, leads to a proper conclusion. All it takes is for your compensation to go too far, and you could face a criminal incident yourself. While you might never be able to put a price on the trauma you have gone through, the rewards of a civil lawsuit can go some way to making sure you can move on with your life in some way.

Do not take matters into your own hands

The worst thing you can do is try to resolve a legal issue. You can still push for a civil lawsuit even if a criminal prosecution is happening. This can ensure that the person, or people responsible for your victimhood, are held accountable. This leaves a permanent mark on their record, it can give you the means of which to move on with your life, and it can give you that important closure.

Most importantly, it can end the situation and be a clear marker for the end of such confusing, troublesome times. It is near-impossible to go through life and deal with every problem you face. Instead of trying to ‘bring justice’ to the individual(s) involved, you will benefit much more from seeing a legal victory.

Even as libertarians, there are times when we have to use the systems in place to achieve success. It is better to accept that, in the case of a criminally wrongful act, you are better off relying on the rule of law to solve the issue. Taking the law into your own hands rarely works out as intended. So, avoid taking such a needless risk; hire a legal expert you can trust instead.

Over time, this is much more likely to result in a prosecution, and a result, that you can be meaningfully happy with.
