‘Trumpression Is Like Nothing I Have Seen’

Journalist Mike Allen said the “Trump-induced funk” he’s seeing among long-time Washingtonians is like nothing he has seen, as insiders struggle to grapple with the new “normal” of the Trump administration.

“I have noticed a growing number of longtime Washingtonians in a prolonged, deep Trump-induced funk,” Allen wrote in his Axios newsletter Thursday, noting he’s not a doctor but that the symptoms seem medical and cross partisan divides. “It’s…Trumpression. The daily challenge to ‘normal’ — normal behavior, normal practices, normal responses — is grinding on people’s psyches.”

“Its symptoms include not only anger or Twitter rage, but a genuine concern for the health of our democracy,” Allen added. “This is not a Democratic or media condition. I see it the eyes of people I have known for years, who now work in the White House. For readers who love Trump, you probably love the shock and change. But the accompanying Trumpression is like nothing I have seen in 30 years of doing this.”

Washington is once again reeling in the fallout from a number of bombshell reports this week, including Donald Trump’s firing of former FBI Director Jim Comey and reports he divulged top secret information to the Russians in a recent oval office conversation. The departure from “normal” in Washington is apparently too much to take.
