I’m not a ‘S-word’: Kamala Harris dodges Socialist Label with NH Voters

Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris said on Monday, she is not a Democratic Socialist in an attempt to set herself apart from her competitor for the Democratic nomination for president, Bernie Sanders.

Senator Sanders who has joined the 2020 race for the White House, labeled himself a Democratic Socialist in the 2016 Presidential Election and still proudly clings to the title today. When Harris visited New Hampshire on the campaign trail, she was asked by a reporter if she would have to tilt her politics leftward toward democratic socialism to win the state’s first-in-the- nation primary. The same primary in which Sanders handily defeated Hillary Clinton when they competed for the state’s delegates three years ago.

“The people of New Hampshire will tell me what’s required to compete in New Hampshire, but I will tell you I am not a democratic socialist,” Harris, a Democratic senator from California, said in response to the question posed as she toured Gibson’s Bookstore in Concord ahead of a Portsmouth town hall.

“I believe that what voters do want is they want to know that whoever is going to lead, understands that in America today, not everyone has an equal opportunity and access to a path to success, and that has been building up over decades and we’ve got to correct course,” Harris said.

Senator Sanders officially announced his candidacy on Tuesday morning.

It should be noted that while Harris currently tries to dodge the title of “Democratic Socialist” she has recently endorsed the Green New Deal, a massive government proposal filled with socialist initiatives, born in the same vain as FDR’s New Deal from which the legislation got its namesake.

Harris also uses much of the same political language as Senator Bernie Sanders, blaming the top one percent of wealth earners for America’s economic ills. Harris tweeted on Tuesday, “The top 1% now has 40 times the average American family’s wealth. We need to address the income inequality gap and restore economic opportunity to ease the strain on American families.”

Kamala might be trying to avoid being labeled a Democratic Socialist like Sanders, but her chatter is sounding pretty commie-like.
