*VIDEO* Penn & Teller: Are Conspiracy Theories Bulls**t?

Penn and Teller have a video out that debunks most major conspiracy theories. In their Emmy award winning show “Bullsh**” that aired for eight seasons they go into detail about how conspiracy theorists fail to critically analyze facts surrounding the major events throughout history. At a time when when paranoia runs rampant on the Internet, their debunking of events like the supposed moon landing hoax and the JFK assassination is a much needed shot in the arm for reason and rationality in todays debate.

While conspiracy theorists often use factual data points to support their wild theories, they seem unable to differentiate between the fact that one piece of evidence doesn’t prove a grand overarching theory. Governments around the world often engage in secret criminal activity, however as most governments are inept they can rarely keep those secrets for long (e.g. Watergate). And other conspiracies are blatant and out in the open such as the conspiracy to assassinate Lincoln and Archduke Franz Ferdinand. The trick to not being fooled by conspiracy theories is to consistently apply the theory of Occam’s Razor which states that the simplest explanation for some phenomenon is more likely to be accurate than more complicated explanations. After all, is it more likely that George W. Bush was a criminal mastermind behind 9/11, or that he and his heads of state blundered the intelligence that showed for years that Bin Laden was determined to attack the United States?

I’ll let you be the judge after you watch the video below.
