What is STEM?

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) students do not see the significance of writing well. The majority believe that writing skills are for other majors such as liberal arts and humanities among others. Additionally, most education systemsin the worldgroup or categorize students based on their aptitudes and interests. Also, there are some countries whose education streams group high school students based on these distinctions. For instance, Science stream teaches students, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology while Art stream students learn Economics, Art, and Accounting.

Hence, many misconceptions begin to go around implying that students who are good in Math and Science lack creativity while those who are good in Art can pain well. However, they are not good at Math and Science. Contrariwise, as a student, you can be artistic as well as have an interest in Finance or Chemistry. An engineer can be a musician. As a human being, you are a complex creature with acombination of talents, tendencies, passions, and interests. When the society or learning institutions begin categorizing students, it results in many students believing that they are unable to do something, do not have to do it, or they are not good in something they perceive to be different from their area of study. Additionally, this will hinder students from trying to learn how to write a perfect essay.

Schools and the society need to know that what matters most to studentsis the area of interest they are pursuing, the research involved, the experiments conducted, and the technical know-how. Additionally, they need to place their STEM writing skills on top of their list of priorities. This article seeks to explain the essence of writing skills for STEM students further. They need to present their studies or reportsin a clear, concise, and interesting manner. After all, how can the audience read a report and find it engaging if you do not incorporate good writing skills?

Even though it can be an overwhelming and challenging task at first, do not struggle on your own. Seek assistance from your instructors. They can guide and direct you on how tocome up with tentative responses for the commonly asked questions such as what questions your report is trying to answer, the implications of your work in comparison to the previous one, and the evidence for the awaited conclusions among others. You may think that you know the answers to these questions. But, when asked to articulate them, you may discover that you do not understand them as you presumed. Hence, this is where the writing process comes in handy. It helps you to go back and carry out more scrutiny to enable answer these questions appropriately. Repeating this process will help you better yourself at responding to the questions. Moreover, it will help you identify new questions which you were not aware of at the beginning of the project.

Another significance of writing well is to deliver a story a few people in the world can comprehend. Stories STEM students tellare either too technical or complicated. And, only a few people can understand. When an expert tries to simplify it, they may end up making it too complex hence resulting in misunderstandings. There is also another argument that STEM students use secondary sources to make sense of their research and write their stories. Understanding what they write becomes too difficult as they can either lose detail, information, or nuance.

Hence, this makes them affirm their beliefs that they are not good writers and that there is no point in learning how to write well. However, that is not true. You can know how to learn how writefrost by not believing the ongoing misconceptions that STEM students are not good writers. You can begin at a steady pace and enhance and hone your writing skills in the process. This will help youto better articulate and present your research to a big audience. Additionally, instructors play a significant role in ensuring you understand the essence of writing and guide you to become a better writer.

In conclusion, there are ongoing misconceptions that STEM students do not know how to write well. Hence, this makes them believe that there is no need for them to learn how to write. However, that is not the case. Every student needs to know how to learn how to write well regardless of their majors. Additionally, schools and society should not categorize students based on their talents and interests. This will only contribute to the majority not developing an interesting in wanting to become better writers.
