Officer Shoots Fleeing Suspect in the Back (VIDEO)

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The Albuquerque Police Department released a video today of an officer shooting a fleeing suspect in the back as the man was running away.

Although the suspect was initially armed, analysis of the video shows the suspect throwing the gun away as he ran from police. At no point does the video show the suspect aiming the gun anywhere near the officers
The police claim that the video shows that the officer acted appropriately. According to the department, Officer Brian Pitzer was justified in firing on the fleeing man because the officer perceived the suspect as a threat.
