13. Was the first and only surgeon to ever separate Siamese twins
After graduating from Yale in 1973, he later enrolled in the University of Michigan School of Medicine where he received his degree in neurosurgery. A decade into becoming a surgical doctor, Carson became the director of pediatric neurosurgery at John Hopkins (where he was previously a resident) in 1987 . In 1997, Carson’s most important case involved separating a set of Siamese twins, affixed to the back of the head. This would go down in history as the first completely successful separation of type-2 vertical craniopagus twins.
