Pakistani Teachers Arm To Defend Students Against Terror (VIDEO)
PESHAWAR, PAKISTAN – In the wake of violent incidents at schools in Pakistan, the government is giving teachers on the northwest frontier territories the chance to fight back allowing teachers to carry concealed firearms.
Mushtuq Ghani, the higher education minister in the Khyber Paktunkhwa provincial government, said that arming teachers is the logical decision when there are only 65,000 police in the region and almost 50,000 schools.
The move comes in response to one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in Pakistan’s history, the December 16th attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar where students and faculty were slaughtered by machine-gun wielding attackers.
In addition to arming teachers and beefing up physical security, many schools hired private security to protect students.
