Could Aleppo gaffe actually work out in Gary Johnson’s favor?
By: Darrell England
It seemed like all was lost for Gary Johnson‘s chances of a prosperous presidential campaign this morning when he asked, “What is Aleppo?” Johnson was finally all over the news publications and video outlets. Although the press was seemingly bad, Johnson appeared on The View and cleared things up. There he stated he thought “Aleppo” was an acronym at first. Either way, Johnson demonstrated knowledge of the regional events once he was told what Aleppo was referring to. And now, could all of this negative press be working in his favor?
Why would I ask such a thing? Because “Aleppo” was trending on Twitter all morning. Now in the afternoon, however, “Gary Johnson” is catching up in Twitter trends. When searching Aleppo, users can see many positive comments about how Johnson handled the matter. When looking up “Gary Johnson,” even more are supporting him. These positive remarks are much better than the earlier negative ones that seemed to then be the majority of the tweets.
Some of examples:
My friend @K0D_4 is right on about #WhatIsAleppo helping #GaryJohnson. https://t.co/cOMjeB6urL

Lot of respect for @GovGaryJohnson for how he handled #AleppoGate
Won’t see that type of honesty out of the other candidates.

I appreciate @GovGaryJohnson‘s response and I believe he was caught off guard by the question.

Nobody cares where Aleppo is — except the pundits who want us to intervene in Syria. https://t.co/as9EsaL0Rb

The @nytimes thought #Aleppo was the Islamic State capital.

If you’re outraged at Johnson for not knowing Aleppo, you should also be outraged over a former Sec of State not knowing classified markings

Has @realDonaldTrump ever used the word Aleppo in a sentence?

Actually Aleppogate is good for #GaryJohnson – needed attention, only 1 in 10 million people know, plus media tut tutting is tedious.

Trump and Hillary say awful, evil, idiotic things every day and no one cares. Gary makes one little mistake and everyone loses their minds.

While #GaryJohnson googles #Aleppo to find out what it is.. the rest of the world is googling Gary Johnson

So who will win at the end of the day? We may find out tomorrow or perhaps next week. What do you think? Trump has been thriving from negative press. Do you think Johnson is tough enough to run this out? Let us know. But if you want to help Gary Johnson, tweet some positive things with hashtags on Twitter.
