Auction Of Gettysburg Soldier’s Skull Canceled – Should You Be Able To Sell Human Remains? (POLL)

An auction house canceled plans to sell a skull that was found near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The head of a former Confederate soldier was projected to bring in between $50,000 and $250,000. But is it wrong to sell body parts if you find them on your private property?

Estate Auction Company cancelled the auction after pressure from the National Parks Service caused them to decide against selling the skull of a Civil War soldier. Auctioneer Thomas Taylor stated his intentions to hand over the skill to the National Park Service to be buried alongside other soldiers at the Soldiers National Cemetery.

The skull was found in 1949 along with 13 other artifacts in an area that was used as a Confederate field hospital near the battle that was considered a turning point in the War between the States.

Bodies have been sold at auction before. In 2012 an auction house in Lehigh County sold two human skeletons still in their caskets which were obtained from a morticians museum.
