Alex Jones Is Wrong On Donald Trump and Wrong on Gary Johnson

Jones is A Hack Who Has No Principles

Alex Jones, the shock radio host of Infowars, has been hammering Gary Johnson on items such as the TPP, mandatory vaccines, and the carbon tax. His editor at-large, Paul Joseph Watson, slammed Johnson in a new video attacking him on the same issues and calling him a “social justice warrior.” Infowars has effectively bought into “a vote for Johnson is a vote for Clinton.”

Infowars even cited a TLR piece on Johnson supporting mandatory vaccines in one of their videos.

Johnson has since reversed course, but Infowars continues to attack Johnson with outdated information. Johnson does not support mandatory vaccines, does not support the carbon tax, and has called TPP laden with crony capitalism. And yet Infowars continues to claim that Johnson supports mandatory vaccines and the carbon tax.

Johnson is not perfect by any means. He’s a candidate who needs to be called out when he messes up. Watson is correct in that calling Trump a racist is an outdated attack. But that’s pretty much it.

The tired theory that “a vote for Johnson is a vote for Hillary” has been debunked many times. As Douglas Perry writes in OregonLive,”[Jill] Stein is garnering very limited support — most likely from fringe leftists and disaffected Bernie Sanders supporters, many of whom are expected to sit out the election — while Johnson appears to pull in independent voters, more so from Clinton than from Trump.”

And how can Jones even seriously call out Gary Johnson?

At least Johnson has put his money where his mouth is. As Paul Gessing points out in National Review:

With so many Democrats in the legislature, Johnson’s main impact was in vetoing an astonishing 739 bills over his eight years in office. Nonetheless, Johnson’s agenda was stymied in other ways by the partisan makeup of his state’s legislature. Every year Johnson proposed school-choice vouchers and every year the Democrats in the legislature killed them.

This is a man who supports Donald Trump, the same man who promises to expand government and government power. The same man who has flip-flopped so many times, he makes Mitt Romney look like a principled conservative. Trump is no conservative and not even remotely libertarian.

Infowars was adamant about NSA spying. A video came out in 2013 where they slammed NSA spying and the erosion of the Fourth Amendment. And yet they continue to support Trump, who loves NSA spying and the Patriot Act. Trump wants to erode the Fourth Amendment and that cannot be disputed.

As TLR‘s  Elias J. Atienza wrote back in June:

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton may be on the opposite sides of the political spectrum, but they are both the same when it comes to violating your right to privacy. The right to be secure in your person and effects is one of our most important rights, enshrined in the Constitution, and cannot be violated in the pursuit of false security. Yet both major party candidates support the government spying on you.

Jones has repeatedly attacked the Patriot Act. In an hour long segment dating back to 2010, he talked about Obama’s reauthorization of the Patriot Act. He called it “1984, big brother is watching you.”

And yet Jones loves Trump so much that he said he doesn’t care that Trump uses “anti-terrorist legislation” as long as it is against “multinationals.” Oh, and that it should be transparent. As long as it is not violating American citizens’ rights, then Trump can go ahead and use the Patriot Act against people.

Because government hasn’t used anti-terrorism legislation against citizens before. But Trump will be different! In that same segment he slams Barack Obama about using government spying. He then said that citizens are being treated like crap. But instead of calling for an abolition of the Patriot Act, he just wants the Patriot Act to be used against foreigners.

Alex Jones has called described himself a libertarian, paleoconservative and a constitutionalist. And yet this man supports someone who calls for more government spending and rebuilding the strongest military in the world; who calls for violating American rights; who called for defaulting on the national debt and then printing more money to cover up for the national debt.

Trump does not support cutting entitlements and in fact criticized the notion of cutting entitlements despite entitlements making up 45 percent of government spending.

“I’m not going to cut Social Security like every other Republican and I’m not going to cut Medicare or Medicaid,” Trump told The Daily Signal. “Every other Republican is going to cut, and even if they wouldn’t, they don’t know what to do because they don’t know where the money is. I do.”

Trump even proudly linked the above story on his own campaign website.

Jones had a segment back in 2011 calling the debt crisis a trojan horse that will lead to the collapse in America.

And yet Donald Trump’s plans will add up to $10 trillion to the debt according to some estimates. As reported by CBS News:

Trump’s measure is considered important, because if the debt gets too large it would cause higher interest rates, be a severe drag on national investment and growth, and potentially lead to a fiscal crisis. Interest costs would also squeeze out other priorities such as defense, education and infrastructure investment.

Jones is a sorry excuse for a “libertarian” and not even principled. He can talk about the New World Order and globalists all he wants, but he is wrong. By supporting Donald Trump, he exposes himself as the opportunist that he is.

As Avens O’Brien notes, Alex Jones is the worst kind of a libertarian and does unspeakable damage to the libertarian movement.

Here’s the thing about Alex Jones though: Alex Jones and his fans are so off their rockers that there are other libertarians who are completely convinced he’s an FBI plant who has been created to discredit the movement. Some of us just think he’s here to make the rest of us look better. Either way, avoid too much direct contact unless you’re ready to dive deep into the world of extreme skepticism of everything that anybody tells you, unless it’s InfoWars, NaturalNews or Newsmax, then it’s the unquestionable word of God.

Maybe Alex Jones is just an FBI plant made to make libertarians look bad. That is a conspiracy theory which would actually have some grounding in reality.
