UPDATE: Facebook Can Now Recognize Dat Ass

By: Laura Meyers

You better watch your back, because now, so is Facebook.

Facebook’s new facial recognition algorithm is so accurate that it can identify people who have their back turned to the camera.

By looking at clothes, hairstyle, body shape and pose, Facebook can identify which of your friends is in any photograph you upload.

Yann LeCun, head of artificial intelligence at Facebook said, “There are a lot of cues we use. People have characteristic aspects, even if you look at them from the back. For example, you can recognize Mark Zuckerberg very easily, because he always wears a grey T-shirt.”

In order to test the algorithm, the research team downloaded 40,000 photographs from Flickr and ran them through a complex neural network. Some photos showed subjects’ faces, others were obscured entirely.

Results showed an 83% accuracy.

This innovation follows Google’s recent photo recognition update which categorizes photos based on their content.

For example, if you want to find a photo stored on your phone of your new puppy, you can search “dog,” and Google will recognize items within your photos and prompt all saved pictures of your puppy.

Technology is cool, but creepy, and always watching.
