Obama Wants to Control Your Guns, Can’t Control His Own

Barack Obama should check himself before he wrecks himself when it comes to his government’s record of controlling of its own weapons

[dropcap size=small]F[/dropcap]or those of you who haven’t been lucid the past few days, President Obama has been pushing gun control once again, weeping for the fallen victims of gun violence as he revealed the details of his latest executive order to restrict the sale and transfer of weapons.

Of course, Obama’s order will be enforced by the very thing he seeks to control: guns. And let us not forget Obama’s role as “commander-in-chief” would be nothing but a silly little title without the backing of the US military’s weaponry.

So, before Barack Obama points out the speck in the eye of American gun owners, what does the plank in the president’s own eye show when it comes to controlling his own government’s weapons?

It shows a blindingly bad bloody mess. The U.S. government under Obama’s watch has been behaving like a band of drunken pirates.

Let us not forget the Fast and Furious scandal, which saw ATF controlled assault weapons placed into the hands of blood thirsty Mexican cartels. Guns which were linked to several bloody incidents. Fast and Furious weapons were also used in the attempted terrorist attack in Garland, Texas.

Then there’s Libya: US weapons from past and present ended up in the hands of the “rebels” seeking to oust Qaddafi. Well, those rebels turned out to be jihadists. Obama may have done away with the Bush-era phrase “War on Terror” but he certainly has kept the war going by arming the wrong side.

Not only did Obama and company arm the wrong side in Libya, US weapons also ended in the hands of terrorists in Somalia, Syria, and Iraq.  And many are asking the uncomfortable question, “where does ISIS get all those wonderful toys?”

Of course, Obama and company will say this was all done by accident.

Well, more accidents keep happening. Hellfire missiles somehow mistakenly ended up in Cuba. The Pentagon lost track of nearly $500 million worth of weapons in Yemen, a country the US is now helping Saudi Arabia bomb with their F-series planes bought from the United States.

And keep in mind, with the recent saber-rattling between Saudi Arabia and Iran, a war between Iran and the GCC would be prosecuted with weapons bought from the US. The same goes for Turkey, a NATO ally, who shot down a Russian plane with US made weapons.

So, when President Obama says he wants to control your guns, remember he barely controls his own. When Obama cries over the true tragedy of first-graders being shot down in their classroom, remember the “collateral damage” of his drone wars.

The moral dissonance is deafening, but dissonance is exactly what one should expect from nation-states and their leaders. It reminds one of a story first told by St. Augustine regarding Alexander the Great:

In the “City of God,” St. Augustine tells the story of a pirate captured by Alexander the Great. The Emperor angrily demanded of him, “How dare you molest the seas?” To which the pirate replied, “How dare you molest the whole world? Because I do it with a small boat, I am called a pirate and a thief. You, with a great navy, molest the world and are called an emperor.”

Maybe the president should focus more on better controlling the weaponry under his control and less on depriving law abiding Americans of their rights.
