EPA Geologist Who Spent Hours Watching Porn In Office Kept Job, Got Bonus

by Luke Rosiak

An Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) geologist said he doesn’t believe he did anything wrong by constantly watching pornography and masturbating on the job because he always finished his meager workload and his colleagues spent lots of time doing “personal” things, too.

Besides boredom at work, the EPA employee said he watched pornography at work instead of home because he didn’t want to be caught by family members.

“They asked me if I had behaved inappropriately in my cube, hinting that they had found evidence of semen on my laptop,” he told EPA Inspector General investigators, according to documents obtained by the trade publication Greenwire. “I told them I did not masturbate in the cubicle but admitted that I had done so while sitting on the toilet in the mens room.”

Despite the apparent minimal workload, EPA bosses gave him “several performance awards” — which generally mean top ratings and monetary bonuses — but the EPA refused to say if the employee was to be fired. Investigators also referred the case for prosecution for misusing government time and resources, but the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia declined to take the case.

The geologist downloaded 7,000 pornography files to an agency server. He was watching pornography when IG investigators visited his office to ask him about it. (RELATED: “Top VA Watchdog Resigned After Being Caught Masturbating On The Job”)

A second EPA employee who worked in the agency’s Office of the Administrator was caught viewing pornography at his desk by a child who was present in the workplace on Bring Your Daughters To Work Day.

“I never masturbated at the office or any EPA facility,” the employee said, claiming “the body fluids investigators noticed may have been the result of [redacted] disinfecting my hands after going to the bathroom.” (RELATED: “The EPA Paid A Child Molester To Retire”)

In addition, “no kid porn was ever seen or downloaded,” the employee said, according to Greenwire. That employee spent a year on paid leave before EPA even attempted to fire him, then he retired.

Rep. Mark Meadows, a North Carolina Republican, introduced a bill making it harder for federal employees to watch pornography at work. That bill, however, would not address managers giving “exceeds expectations” performance reviews to mediocre employees, or declining to pursue existing avenues for discipline aggressively.
