DETROIT, MI – Dozens of Detroit cops are off the streets but still getting paid while having outstanding arrest warrants. [contextly_auto_sidebar id=”DpmIKjSXBu9avL4Edycck7o7lpE1CqiS”]

Sources for the Detroit News say that 23 officers have been suspended with pay for offenses ranging from unpaid parking violations to moving violations.  Although none of the officers are being charged with felonies, several officers are suspected of driving with suspended or expired licenses.

In a statement to the press, Detroit Sgt. Michael Woddy said,  “We can’t have people with suspended licenses driving city-owned vehicles, and we can’t have officers out there with outstanding arrest warrants.”

“None of these were criminal offenses, but it doesn’t negate the fact that officers have warrants out for their arrests. We obviously can’t have that.”

The cops will be able to remain on their paid vaca…suspension until they are able to resolve their legal troubles.

“We have policies in place,” said Woody. “Anytime an officer has a warrant against him on this kind of issue, they’re suspended with pay until they pay the fines or get their licenses back. Once that happens, they’ll be brought back to work.”

The Detroit Police Department checks their officer’s records twice a year to make sure that their cops don’t have outstanding legal issues.
