The Free Thought Project has stumbled upon a story that is, at minimum, a remarkable illustration of government ineptitude. Last year, Michigan resident Sylvan Triggs got into a heated exchange with Canton police officers who detained him outside his home.
Officers said they were detaining Triggs because he fit the description of a man who had been exposing himself to area women: a black man wearing black shorts. Triggs recorded the incident.
A police announcement from the time of the exchange, however, contradicts the officer’s repeated assertions that the suspect was black. The announcement says the suspect was wearing black shorts – but describes him as a tall white male.
Triggs added “I am short.”
