WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Enterprise Institute has a new video out starring Christina Hoff Sommers about how boys are falling behind in school and what we can do to help. She thinks that the problem is that we are treating boys like defective girls.

Sommers argues that 75% of the people diagnosed with ADHD are boys and some psychologists believe we would prescribe less Ritalin if we offered more recess. She thinks that boys are being presented with assignments that don’t help them succeed or take advantage of their interests.

Sommers believes that boys are alienated because they are chastised for their unique preferences. She states in this interview that we need to make reading a priority for boys and that teachers should find stories that cater to their interests.
