NEW POLL: McMullin Now Only 1% Away from Leading in Utah
In a new poll conducted by Rasmussen, Independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin is only 1% behind Donald Trump for first place in Utah. This news is not overwhelmingly surprising, as three other recent polls have showed the Independent at 20% or better.
Moreover, McMullin is perhaps the archetype of a successful candidate in Utah, with Trump extremely unpopular there in spite of past Republican successes. McMullin is a lifelong Republican, holding almost all of the same positions as most conservatives. He was also notably born in Utah, a graduate of Brigham Young University, and a Mormon, all of which bodes well for him in the state.
This is particularly advantageous because of his late start in the race, which precluded him from attaining ballot access in most states. This gives him the luxury to spend nearly all of the remaining three weeks campaigning in Utah. Because the state is one of the less populous states in the country, he therefore has the opportunity to efficiently reach most of the state’s voters.
It is difficult to envision a scenario where Trump can win the presidential election without Utah’s 6 electoral votes. As more controversy envelops the Republican, his odds of victory become closer to slim and none.
