Judge Napolitano Weighs in on Rand Paul & Vaccination Debate, “Most Fears Are Irrational”

Senator Rand Paul appears to be suffering from foot in mouth disease after comments in an interview regarding vaccinations where he said that he heard some vaccines led to “mental disorders.”

“I’ve heard of many tragic cases of walking, talking, normal children, who wound up with profound mental disorders after vaccines.”

Paul’s comments carry heavy weight, due to his background as a doctor. Unfortunately, his comments weren’t backed up by evidence, but amounted to nothing more than an anecdote. His remarks were in contrast to Chris Christie‘s similar statements where he expressed sympathy for parents right to choose. But unlike Paul, Christie didn’t attempt to pander to the anti-vaccine lobby.

Judge Andrew Napolitano defended Christie and Paul’s comments on choice, saying: “I think they both were arguing the default position is parental, not governmental.”

Napolitano did say that those who knowingly do not vaccinate their child and send the child to school are criminals. He also went on to explain how powerful the anti-vaccination movement is amongst a segment of Republican voters, and closed by arguing that “most fears are irrational.”
