Josh Guckert

by Brian Nichols

Each year, we celebrate various occasions. Anniversaries, holidays, milestones… and yes; Birthdays.

November 18 happens to be one special birthday for those of us at The Libertarian Republic:

Our Editor in Chief: Josh Guckert.

To celebrate his birthday, let’s take a travel back in time to rank the Top 5 Articles that Josh has published during his time here at The Libertarian Republic:

5. Dear Conservatives: At Least Be Intellectually Honest About Trump Riots

In an not-so-past article, Josh addressed the protests that have broken out across the United States in response to a Trump victory over Clinton and the manner in which many conservatives have reacted to said protests:

“…These protests are, generally speaking, the work of younger and more enthusiastic people. This can even be seen historically with the Civil Rights Era and the anti-Vietnam War movement. While certainly not impossible, the thought of adults in their late 30s and older taking to the streets in the same manner and with the same passion seems far-fetched at best.

Even for the few urban and young Republican supporters, they are likely cognizant of just how underrepresented their demographics are in their select areas, thus discouraging any similar kind of demonstration (let alone the serious challenge of going out and finding these other few like-minded persons).”

An intellectually sound and concise article from Josh.

4. The Young Turks Attempt to “Debunk” Libertarianism, But Completely Fail

In August 2016, The Young Turks, a liberal Youtube news group, decided to create a video in an attempt to “debunk” Libertarianism, by and large due to Gary Johnson’s rise in the polls that were showing an impact on Hillary Clinton’s poll numbers at the time.

In short, Josh took down The Young Turks video step-by-step, essentially identifying each progressive fallacy promoted as exposed them for what they were: fallacies.

3. It’s Happening: Libertarianism Growing Rapidly

In this blast from the past, Josh accurately identified the rising tide of the libertarian movement in terms of both party and ideology.  From highlighting the rise of libertarian-Republican firebrands like Justin Amash, Thomas Massie, Ron Paul, and Rand Paul, Josh was able to articulate the rising tide of libertarian ideals in the American political landscape.

This rising tide eventually led to Gary Johnson obtaining the highest vote total of any Libertarian candidate ever in a contest for President of the United State.

2. Alternate Reality 2016: What if Ron Paul Had Won the 2012 Election?

Two months prior to the 2016 Election, Josh’s article focusing on the Alternate Reality of the 2016 political landscape had Ron Paul won the 2012 presidential election was both insightful, and admittedly, depressing.

In a woulda-shoulda-coulda article, Josh not only identified how the 2016 presidential race would be shaping out with a President Paul seeking his second term, but how the political landscape in America would have been drastically changed for the better under this stalwart libertarian administration.

1. Hillary Clinton Has a Donald Trump Problem

From July 2015, Josh’s sub-title says it all:

Democrats Laugh at Trump, But Should Think More About Clinton

In his seemingly prophetic article, Josh identified some key issues with the Hillary Clinton candidacy and why the Democratic Party should, in fact, view Trump as a real threat to their presidential coronation.

“Hillary Clinton has shown herself to be quite susceptible to corruption and entirely out of touch with the American public. In spite of Clinton having a seemingly clear path to the Presidency, Democratic primary voters in 2008 rejected her in favor of an at the time nearly anonymous freshman Senator from Illinois. The fact that she insists upon running again in 2016 suggests that Clinton has perhaps a strange sense of entitlement toward the Oval Office…

…Democrats ought not to cheer too loudly about the problems which Donald Trump is creating for the Republican Party, because they might soon have similar trouble on their hands with their seemingly inevitable nominee. For as laughable and despicable as the Democratic Party finds Donald Trump, they may have their own version right in front of their eyes.”

Quite a prediction, and quite a thorough analysis from sixteen months ahead of the 2016 Election.

Thanks for everything you do for us, Josh.  I speak on behalf of myself, Austin, and all of us contributors here at The Libertarian Republic; Thank you, and have a Happy Birthday!
