Guess What Pope Francis Thinks About You “Christian” Gun Owners?

By: Laura Meyers

I’m not Catholic, but I am a Christian, and this current pope ticks me right off.

On Sunday, Pope Francis told a rally of young people that any person who manufactures weapons cannot call themselves a Christian.

“If you trust only men you have lost,” he said when talking about war, trust, and politics.

“It makes me think of … people, managers, businessmen who call themselves Christian and they manufacture weapons. That leads to a bit a distrust, doesn’t it?” he said to applause.

(Nevermind the armed Swiss Guards that are assigned to protect the Pope and the Vatican. That’s none of my business.)

He also criticized people who invest in weapons industries by stating that “duplicity is the currency of today … they say one thing and do another.”

Now, as Christian, I don’t believe arming oneself against is a sin. I do believe that an angry and impatient heart, murder, and resisting to protect others from evil are sins.

“If you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.” Luke 22:36

When Christ was about to part the apostles, no longer able to protect them from evils and murderous Pharisees, he instructed them to sell a cloak and buy a sword if they did not already own one.

When Christ cannot be there to defend a person’s physical self, to arm oneself, while maintaining a peaceful heart, is not a sin.

And despite the argument about the permissibility of self-defense, how dare A POPE OF ALL PEOPLE suggest that anyone cannot be a Christian because he/she may be a sinner.

Isn’t the whole point of a church to be a hospital for the sick? And if you think gun owners and weapon manufacturers are sinners, you should be welcoming them with an open heart and arms, instead of shaming them out of their faith, right?

But what do I know? I’m just a distrustful Christian who has had fallen to the duplicity of self-defense.
