75-year-old grandmother tied up while police raid the wrong apartment

HENRICO, VA– Ruth Hunter found herself caught in the crosshairs of an inept drug investigation being carried out by State Police earlier this month. The 75-year-old grandmother, “thought someone was breaking in to rob or kill me,” she said to WTVR.

After her door was kicked down, she said a voice yelled, “Police!” She was then handcuffed with zip ties and told she was under arrest. Police then began interrogating her to see if she had been storing drugs for anyone.

“I said how dare you insult my integrity.” Hunter continued to deny any involvement with drug dealers as the line of questioning moved to her granddaughter. Police asked if Hunter’s loved one was involved, to which Hunter replied, “how dare you try and bring my granddaughter into this stuff. She’s a law-abiding citizen, works for a living, she don’t even like coming here.”

Police ultimately arrested her neighbor two doors down, while leaving her tied up in her apartment. The events have traumatized Hunter to such a degree that she is moving out, and had only one thing to say about the police involved.

“I’m very irritated and angry, he never said I’m sorry, never apologized for having the wrong house…he said you got to get someone to fix that door.” State Police have declined to comment on the matter, stating the drug investigation is ongoing.
