Officer who dropped an attack dog in surrendering man’s lap cleared of any wrongdoing (VIDEO, GRAPHIC)

Punishment is reserved for the courts, not the police

WILMINGTON, NC – Wilmington police officer Stafford Brister, who dropped an attack dog in a surrendering man’s lap, was cleared of any wrongdoing by a grand jury. Video from the encounter shows the officer lifting his K9 through the car window and dropping it in the lap of Johnnie Williams, whose hands were up. Williams received lacerations to his face from the incident.

Police initially chased Williams after he blew past a DWI checkpoint, leading to a police chase. Officers attempted to force Williams to pull over, even driving down the wrong way on a one-way street. Wilmington officers eventually T-boned him, forcing him to crash which led to the incident with the dog.

Chief Ralph Evangelous commented on the case saying, “Sometimes the job we do is not pretty.”
