Was this Fort Bend bathroom shooting justified? (VIDEO)

“I’m trying to help you.”

The family of slain Texas man Michael Blair has released a graphic video of his shooting death at the hands of a Fort Bend County sheriff’s deputy. Blair’s family called the police after the 26-year-old paranoid schizophrenic locked himself in a bathroom with a knife, threatening to kill himself.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived, a lengthy altercation ensued. Ultimately, Blair was shot several times as he advanced towards an officer while brandishing a knife. The entire incident was captured by a clandestine camera.

Upon seeing that Blair had a knife, police repeatedly used a Taser in an effort to subdue him. Officers also ordered Blair to put the knife down several dozen times. “I’m trying to help you,” a deputy can be heard explaining. Neither effort was successful.

In the first video below, newscasters present a heavily censored clip from the video. The second video is the unedited footage. Some viewers may find it disturbing.
