Why Is Evergreen College Insane? Take One Look At Its Course Catalog

Evergreen State College, the site of viral student protests over the past two weeks, now offers fall 2017 courses that might be even more ridiculous than the commotion that’s been rocking the university.

Courses titled “Awakening the Dreamer, Pursuing the Dream,” “Afrofuturism,” “Growing, Creating, and Understanding Color,” and “Countertextual Ecologies: Gastropoetics” can be found in its fall 2017- spring 2018 Course Catalogue.

In short, students (and taxpayers) are paying thousands of dollars – $6,500 for state residents and $24,000 for non-residents – for absurd courses that don’t mean a thing: “Gastropoetics” isn’t even a word, according to the English Oxford Dictionary.

Students at Evergreen receive narrative evaluations instead of grades to preserve their self-esteem. Evergreen says this approach allows professors to take stock of student performance as a whole. Students also get a say in the grading process.

Evergreen offers a course titled, “The Meaning of Life Through Science and Spirituality” that focuses on climate change, peace, and social justice in the search for life’s purpose.

“Dancing Molecules, Dancing Bodies” uses dance to communicate with the body to understand the chemical processes within. (RELATED: These Are Actual Biology Courses Offered At Evergreen State College)

Math courses include, “Advocating for Sustainable Culture” and “Dimensions for Inequality and Options for Change.”

Physics courses include “Defending Mother Earth: Science, Energy and Native Peoples“.

The school’s website calls Evergreen as a “special” place, but it would be better categorized as nutty and perhaps illegal since it continues to violate the first amendment of free speech.

Evergreen State College made headlines after one of it’s professors, Bret Weinstein, spoke out against the “Day of Absence” wherein all white students, staff, and faculty were asked to leave campus for the day.

After Weinstein called the mandatory invitation to leave “a show of force, and an act of oppression,” students angrily responded and caused the school to cancel classes for three straight days.
