Appearing in an exclusive interview with NBC, whistleblower Edward Snowden declared: “I’m a Patriot.”

The former NSA contractor who revealed the extent of the U.S. government’s domestic surveillance programs claims that he did so in order to inform the American people about the unconstitutional breaches of 4th amendment rights. Snowden claimed that he did so in order to be able to sleep at night, and argued that it is up to the people of the United States to determine whether they wish to allow these programs to continue.

In an in depth interview, Snowden explains how he ended up in Russia, what his relationship to their government is, and under what conditions he might return to the United States.
