According to multiple outlets, Country Music Television (CMT), home to “Redneck Island,” “Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Challenge,” and “Country Fried Music Videos” is in talks to revive Tim Allen’s “Last Man Standing.”

For the uninformed, “Last Man Standing” was a very popular show about a conservative dad and his liberal family, and the ever changing world around him. It spoke to a specific kind of person in today’s day-and-age, who means well, but is understandably flabbergasted by the PC culture becoming a dominate culture.

It was quite a shock when cancelled, due to its (very) high ratings and passionate fanbase. Many speculated it was due to Tim Allen’s conservative views (and an interview he had with Jimmy Kimmel comparing being conservative to being a Jew in Germany), but the official reason for the cancellation was the expense of the show; since it was not wholly owned by the network that aired it.

Which brings us to CMT. They recently picked up the country-music drama ‘Nashville’ for a fifth (and now sixth) season after ABC cancelled it. So, there’s precedent for a show moving from ABC to CMT.

But there are hurdles.

Cable budgets are smaller than Network budgets, CMT is a small cable network to begin with, and “Last Man Standing” was fairly expensive, so the cast would need to take a major cut, or the budget would need to be reduced in some other significant way.

…Maybe they make the show a one-set comedy a la Barney Miller? Who knows.

What I do know is there is hope yet for LMS fans. How big that hope is, like a 7th season for the show, remains to be seen.

And now, Cowboy Troy!
