Healthcare.gov’s Negative Fallout Spreading to Insurers

Insurers redirecting resources to deal with problems generated by data

Health care insurers are complaining that the data generated from Healthcare.gov is so convoluted that it’s hampering their efforts to handle even the small trickle of people actually registering.

The technological problems are spreading out beyond just the buggy website. Insurance companies are reportedly receiving duplicate sign ups, missing data, and plenty of fishy registrations that need to be investigated.

Blue Cross & Blue Shield are being forced to hire new workers in order to solve all the problems generated by the incoherent data they must process. Medical Mutual of Ohio reportedly had just one single customer actually sign up for its plans successfully.

These types of problems can do near-permanent damage to private insurance companies, who have to shift crucial resources away from actually helping people and dealing with the flawed government healthcare systems.

“The longer this takes to resolve . . . the harder it will be to get people to [come back and] sign up,” said Aetna Inc.
