Woman Livestreams Aftermath of Police Shooting That Left One Man Dead

The Facebook account of Lavisha Reynolds became the subject of intense scrutiny and outrage last night when Reynolds livestreamed a video of the aftermath of  police shooting. The graphic video shows Reynold’s boyfriend, Philando Castile, bleeding out from gun shots he suffered at the hands of a police officer.

The incident occurred during a traffic stop. An agitated officer can be seen shakily pointing his gun into the car and is heard excaliming, “Fuck!” The officer then says, “I told him not to reach for it! I told him to get his hand off it!”

The woman alleges that Castile notified the officer he had a concealed carry permit and was armed, but that the officer shot him after requesting he retrieve his ID.

CBS reports:

St. Anthony Police said in a press release that officers pulled over a vehicle at Larpenteur Avenue and Fry Street at about 9 p.m. They said “shots were fire” during the traffic stop, and a handgun was recovered at the scene. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating.

Castile reportedly died of his injuries a couple hours later.

The video shows Reynolds being ordered out of the car. It is reported that her 4-year-old daughter was also present, though she is not shown in the video.

“The police just shot my boyfriend for no apparent reason…they shot him three times cause we had a busted tail light. He asked him for license and registration he told them was in his wallet but he has a a pistol on him ’cause he’s licensed to carry and the officer told him don’t move and as he’s putting his hand back up the officer shot him in his arm about four, five times.”

Reynolds is understandably upset, but seemingly admits the officer told Castile not to move and was shot after that warning. How the events transpired is unclear, but one man is unfortunately dead.
