*VIDEO* Are College Kids Libertarians?

Do you even liberty bro?

The Huffington Post held a hangout with college kids where they stated they were socially liberal but fiscally conservative. Basically libertarians! Kids these days don’t care what you do with your personal life. They also don’t want to be saddled with student loans for the rest of their lives, especially when the government’s economic policies mean they are going to have a harder time finding jobs.

Mike Sacks of Huffo Po Live nails this segment by asking the kinds of questions that James Padilioni Jr knocks out of the park. He also does a great job of asking some of the tougher questions about things like seasteading which might be alienating to wider audiences who don’t understand the concepts of anarcho-capitalism or of drug legalization.

Padilioni expressed how the issues that are pressing to college students are issues that libertarians can speak to. “Whether it’s student debt or their future career possibilities, many college students are not just pot smoking hippies. They really do want to have a future. “Libertarianism has real policy solutions to real problems. Look at your twitter feeds. Libertarianism is becoming mainstream because the signs of the times are making it mainstream. Issues are not being solved by other ideologies.” 

Sacks asked if there were any limits to libertarian philosophy on campuses citing Senator Rand Paul‘s speech at Howard University where he recently faced a very tough audience of mostly black students. Padilioni challenged Sacks over the assertion that libertarians are just white males. Being of mixed race himself, James was uniquely able to respond to the reality that the liberty movement has become very diverse. “Plus 80% of America is White!” he says.
