These ‘Game of Thrones’ Fan Theories Will Blow Your Mind

bran

Bran is Brandon the Builder

After seeing how Bran was the cause of Wylis’s becoming Hodor, this theory has become very plausible. The idea is that Bran, using his ability as a greenseer, changed past events. It’s entirely possible that he didn’t actually change anything and he was always meant to use his powers at that time to cause that outcome, but he may not yet understand that.

Bran may very well use his powers to try and go back to certain points in history in an attempt to fix them, only to be the very catalyst that caused them in the first place. Or he might want to see how certain events played out and find that they didn’t happen the way he was told and may inadvertently cause them. It’s very time travel paradoxical, but if it’s true that might mean Bran is the reason the Starks even exist.

Brandon the Builder was the architect who built Winterfell, The Wall, and possibly even Storm’s End. He was also one of the first men and the founder of House Stark. With Brans time traveling powers, he could theoretically be that Brandon Stark.

It sounds crazy, but read this passage from the first novel where Old Nan tells Bran about Brandon the Builder:

“I could tell you the story about Brandon the Builder,” Old Nan said. “That was always your favorite.”

Thousands and thousands of years ago, Brandon the Builder had raised Winterfell, and some said the Wall. Bran knew the story, but it had never been his favorite. Maybe one of the other Brandons had liked that story. Sometimes Nan would talk to him as if he were her Brandon, the baby she had nursed all those years ago, and sometimes she confused him with his uncle Brandon, who was killed by the Mad King before Bran was even born. She had lived so long, Mother had told him once, that all the Brandon Starks had become one person in her head.

The line that “all the Brandons had become one person in her head” is what fans focus on. There is also a line in A Clash Of Kings where a character is described as having been told by a boy how to build a massive castle, and that boy was Bran the Builder.

The idea that Bran’s using a time travel-like ability to shape the entire history of Westeros as we know it is pretty crazy and a bit more Sci-Fi than we are used to with A Game Of Thrones, but it’s definitely interesting. If it ends up being true it would make Bran the most powerful and important character in the world. After seeing what happened to Wylis, it may not be as far fetched as it sounds.
