Are Oreos more addictive than cocaine? (VIDEO)

Send in the SWAT Teams! He’s got a Double Stuf!

Students at Connecticut College found that high fat Oreos stimulate pleasure center neurons in the brain similar to cocaine, or morphine

Laboratory rats were tested in chambers and darted through mazes to get to the cookie. And would you believe they ate the cream first? They were like crack addicts! The control rats in the study were fed rice cakes. “Just like humans, rats don’t seem to get much pleasure out of eating them,” Schroeder said of the rice cakes.

This science stuff sure is useful!

“Our research supports the theory that high-fat, high-sugar foods stimulate the brain in the same way that drugs do,” Professor Joseph Schroeder said. “It may explain why some people can’t resist these foods despite the fact that they know they are bad for them.”

One student has been testing Oreos all summer, I mean. She’s been testing rats all summer, feeding them Oreos and measuring their brains. She learned that rats actually had more neurons stimulated by Oreos than cocaine! That’s crazy!

The woman who came up with the study says that she thinks the findings are going to be a problem with the general public. “Even though we associate significant health hazards in taking drugs like cocaine and morphine, high-fat, high-sugar foods may present even more of a danger because of their accessibility and affordability,” she said.

Uh oh! Soon we’ll hear be hearing from Michael Bloomberg! Oreos are too cheap! Tax them like cigarettes and keep them out of the hands of kids! Block their advertising and shut ’em down boys!
