Video: Navy SEAL Bashes Gun-Free Zones

After countless politicians used the horrific events of Orlando, Florida to rally for more gun control, ex-Navy SEAL Dom Raso fired off on those who have called to ban the AR-15 rifle. Calling the rifle a “common sense choice” for self-defense, Raso tore into the self-interested politicians trying to disarm Americans.

Shortly thereafter Raso shot another segment with NRA News, this time calling for an end to gun-free zones. “If I’m a suicidal terrorist,” he asks, “who do I want to run into on my killing spree—armed civilians who will immediately return fire, or an unarmed, untrained person who will cower in the corner and beg for mercy?”

The SEAL goes on to berate the “political and media hacks” who refuse to identify the real problem and instead, attack people like himself who actually identify the problem.

Raso’s stance shouldn’t be a revelation to those paying attention. All of the majorly publicized mass shootings have occurred in places where citizens are barred from carrying firearms. During the most recent tragedy in Orlando, only one guard stationed outside of the club was carrying a weapon. This is clearly an unacceptable course of action to continue pursuing.

The political left always responds to these accusations with the charge that opponents of their agenda are just trying to solve the problem with more guns. In truth, opponents of gun-free zones are trying to solve the problem with fewer targets.

For all of these lone-wolf actors with no prior criminal records, existing gun laws are essentially useless in preventing them from acquiring firearms. Even Chris Murphy, the champion of the gun-grabbing left after his 15-hour gun control filibuster, struggled to explain how the laws he proposed would have stopped the Orlando shooting.

The left should be heavily pressed at every opportunity to explain how having someone trained to carry a firearm present could possibly make a mass-shooting worse. A wild-west picture is often painted by those who want to smear gun rights advocates. The reality is that having licensed firearm owners on site would be a huge step forward in stopping these chaotic tragedies.

Criminals won’t cease to be criminals just because we restrict the freedoms of law-abiding citizens. Guns made illegal will just be pushed underground, right into the hands of those who want to wreak as much mayhem as possible.

We’d be wise to take advice from someone like Dom Raso, a man who spent his life protecting Americans from harm. He speaks in unequivocal terms that gun-free zones “give killers a clear advantage over the law-abiding.” When it comes to keeping Americans safe, removing a killer’s upper hand and giving citizens the true advantage is a target worth pursuing.
