Lawsuit filed against cop who shattered woman’s face (VIDEO)

“The state calls its own violence law, but that of the individual, crime.” -Max Stirner

SKOKIE VILLAGE, IL – The Libertarian Republic has learned that Cassandra Feuerstein is filing a lawsuit against Officer Michael Hart after video emerged of him shoving her into a cell and shattering her face. TLR previously reported on this incident on October 10th, and new details are emerging in this case.

Feuerstein’s attorney, Torri Hamilton, filed a federal lawsuit this month alleging police brutality. Prosecutors allege that Officer Hart shoved Feuerstein so hard that when she fell, her injuries would require reconstructive surgery to install a titanium plate. Prosecutors also charge that her eye socket was broken and her teeth were loosened. Hart is being charged with aggravated battery and official misconduct.

“It’s pretty clear that he stepped over the line,” Cook County State Attorney Anita Alvarez said. “Obviously (police officers) are there because of the public trust. … It’s a sad day when we have to announce charges against a police officer.”

Hart’s attorney Jed Stone has pointed to the fact that the officer has never been disciplined and has never been the subject of an excessive force complaint. The officer’s lawyer reminded the public that Feuerstein was being incarcerated for a DUI. “Put that against the backdrop of a 19-year career police officer with an unblemished record, and explain to me why he’s being prosecuted,” Stone said. “This is a good officer. The law says police can use reasonable force to get someone to comply with a reasonable direction.”
