BREAKING: Yet Another Former Governor Wants Johnson in the Debates

by Josh Guckert

Former New Jersey Governor Christie Whitman indicated on Twitter Thursday that she would like to see Governors Gary Johnson and William Weld in the presidential debates.

She becomes at least the sixth former governor to support this motion, joining Mitt Romney, Mitch Daniels, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Marc Racicot, and Jesse Ventura. However, Ventura is the only non-Republican and so far the only one of the group to actually endorse Johnson for election.

Whitman is to date the only female governor in the history of New Jersey. She was also the first Republican woman to ever be reelected governor. In 2013, she joined Johnson and Weld (among many others) in signing a brief to the Supreme Court requesting recognition of same-sex marriage.

Whitman previously indicated that she could not support Trump, and that she would instead consider Clinton if he were to be nominated by the Republicans. However, since the beginning of the general election season, she has perhaps changed her mind as to possibly instead consider a ticket with two of her former colleagues.
