Fairfax: Due Process For Me (but not for thee)

Virginia Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax (D) is facing impeachment proceedings based on a second round of sexual allegations leveled against him. A Virginia House of Delegates member, Patrick Hope (D), said on Friday that if Fairfax doesn’t resign by Monday, he will introduce impeachment proceedings.

“On Monday, I will be introducing articles of impeachment for Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax if he has not resigned before then,” Hope wrote on Twitter.

A law firm representing Meredith Watson, Fairfax’s second accuser, alleged in a statement that she was raped by Fairfax in 2000 while they both attended Duke University.

“Ms. Watson shared her account of the rape with friends in a series of emails and Facebook messages that are now in our possession,” the statement reads. “Additionally, we have statements from former classmates corroborating that Ms. Watson immediately told friends that Mr. Fairfax had raped her.”

“Ms. Watson was upset to learn that Mr. Fairfax raped at least one other woman after he attacked her. The details of Ms. Watson’s attack are similar to those described by Dr. Vanessa Tyson.”

“At this time, Ms. Watson is reluctantly coming forward out of a strong sense of civic duty and her belief that those seeking or serving in public office should be of the highest character. She has no interest in becoming a media personality or reliving the trauma that has greatly affected her life. Similarly, she is not seeking any financial damages.”

The first sexual allegation leveled against Mr. Fairfax by Dr. Vanessa Tyson, as previously reported by The Libertarian Republic, has been denied by Fairfax in an official statement released on Twitter on February 6th.

The Democratic Party of Virginia is also calling for the resignation of Fairfax as a result of the second alleged sexual assault, but Fairfax said on Friday he will not resign.

“It is obvious that a vicious and coordinated smear campaign is being orchestrated against me,” he stated.

Fairfax released an official statement on Sunday, asking for due process after restating that both encounters were consensual.

It should be noted that it is at times like these that due process is important to the preservation of a free society as Buck Sexton, a Fox News Contributor said, “Something that is about to get intentionally muddled by the media- The allegations against Kavanaugh were *not credible.* The allegations against Fairfax *are credible.* But “credible” isn’t the same as guilty.”

Dana Loesch, NRA spokeswomen and Fox News Contributor, added to Sexton’s point saying, “To add to Buck’s point, I do not know the truth of this story, but Fairfax should receive the same due process that was owed to Kavanaugh. Party affiliation and accusations alone are not convictions.”
