As Shutdown Looms, Trump Tweets Outrage at New Demand From Democrats

As negotiations between President Trump and the Democrats have reportedly been unproductive, with another government shutdown looming, the president tweeted Monday in response to new demands from the Democrats.

Democrats reportedly do not want ICE, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, to be detaining illegal immigrants in their detention centers anymore. This comes after the United Nations human rights office said the US may be in violation of the UN Convention Against Torture.

The government will shut down again at the end of this week if there is no agreement. Alabama Senator Richard Shelby (R) had the following to say,

“I think the talks are stalled right now,” Shelby said Sunday, “I’m hoping we can get off the dime later today or in the morning because time is ticking away. But we got some problems with the Democrats dealing with ICE, that is detaining criminals that come into the U.S., and they want a cap on them, we don’t want a cap on that.”

Another demand coming from the Democrats is for ICE to reduce the number of beds in their detention centers from 38,000 to 16,000. This applies to those illegal immigrants found within the United States and not on the border.

With tensions running high, the president tweeted again at Democrats, telling them to loosen up.

Trump and the Democrats have until Friday to reach a deal before the government shuts down again. Based off of recent reports, that deadline may be closer than it seems – and so may be another shutdown.
