62-year-old man forced to hold sign declaring him a bully

SOUTH EUCLID, OH– Mike Prugh was at the end of his rope after dealing with his neighbor’s harassment over a 15-year period.

“You wonder every time you walk outside, you turn to your left to see if your neighbor is there spitting, yelling, screaming at you and you don’t know why,” he told USA Today.

62-year-old Edmond Aviv has harassed Prugh’s family in a multitude of ways, including smearing dog feces on parts of their house and leaking kerosene into the vents. He has even taunted Prugh’s adopted African-American siblings with disabilities.

Prugh has attempted to press charges, and Aviv has appeared in court five times over the years, but to no avail. Finally, Judge Gayle Williams-Byers decided more drastic action should be taken to stop Aviv.

Aviv was forced to spend 15 days in jail, and was told to make a sign saying, “I am a bully. I pick on children that are disabled and I am intolerant of those that are different from myself. My actions do not reflect an appreciation for the diverse South Euclid community that I live in.”

Last Sunday, he stood at a busy intersection with his art work letting people know what type of neighbor he was.

“I would hope that what’s been achieved here is finally the modicum of justice that they had been hoping for for quite some time,” said Judge Williams-Byers.

Prugh is just hoping the judge’s new order will finally end Aviv’s abusive behavior.

“Move on with your life, hopefully they can move on with their lives, and we can live in peace,” he said.

Aviv is also ordered by his sentence to write a letter apologizing to the Prugh’s. He also must take anger management classes, and complete 100 hours of community service.

Should he fail at any of these tasks, he will be sent back to jail. Do you think this type of punishment is effective?
