5 Reasons Why Santorum Doesn’t Understand Freedom

By R. Brownell

5. Believes women should have to carry their rapist’s baby

Whether you are pro-life or pro-choice, Santorum made it clear in his 2012 campaign that if you are raped by a man and it results in impregnation, you should not have the option of consulting your doctor over whether abortion should be an option on the table:

“Well, you can make the argument that if she doesn’t have this baby, if she kills her child, that that, too, could ruin her life. And this is not an easy choice, I understand that. As horrible as the way that that son or daughter and son was created, it still is her child. And whether she has that child or she doesn’t, it will always be her child, and she will always know that.”

4. Keep feeding the welfare state

During his time in the Senate, Santorum was successful in fighting budget cuts against abused food stamp programs.  That’s not all though, Santorum has a history of asking for foreign aid overseas to impoverished nations, along with other very anti fiscally conservative views….

3. Doesn’t understand how the free market works.

The same year that Santorum voted against cuts to failing welfare programs, Santorum also voted in favor of the federal government forcing a mandatory minimum wage law on businesses. The Libertarian Republic has demonstratedtime and time againwhy the minimum wage is bad policy.

2. Believes in legislating morality

In a way to woo evangelical conservatives, Santorum went on record saying that he does not believe in a separation of church and state:

“I don’t believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute. The idea that the church can have no influence or no involvement in the operation of the state is absolutely antithetical to the objectives and vision of our country”

1. Endorsed a Republican who helped pass Obamacare

Santorum endorsed Republican turned Democrat Arlen Spectre in 2004, a move which caused other conservatives such as Mitt Romney to lean in on the issue:

“There was also 1996, when he supported Arlen Specter, by the way,” Romney said. “Arlen Specter, the only pro-choice candidate we’ve seen in that race. There were other conservatives running, like Bob Dole. He didn’t support them. He supported the pro-choice candidate, Arlen Specter…Specter would end up being the 60th and deciding vote in favor of Obamacare.”
