10 Reasons Libertarians are Just Better People than Liberals

Libertarians

by G.B. Endian

#1. We give to charity even if other people don’t.

Why don’t liberals give away their last dime to government programs they think are important? Why do they require other people to pay the same amount in taxes before they do the same? When a libertarian decides to give money to charity, he doesn’t force everyone to do the same with a law, and he’ll do it with or without a law anyway. Not liberals. They’re too selfish to give up their money by themselves for the things they want. So they’ll take yours.

#2. We understand true greed.

Liberals call libertarians greedy because we don’t want to give our hard-earned money to the government to do things like ruin minority communities with welfare programs, create bubbles in college tuition, or wage unending wars in Asia. Real greed consists of wanting to get something for nothing. That’s exactly what liberals want. Whether its welfare or giving money to failing, irresponsible institutions, liberals want to keep what they’ve earned and use your money to get what they want. That is true greed: acquiring what you want at the expense of others when you could do it yourself.

#3. We don’t beatify any institution, public or private.

While liberals want you to think libertarians believe private actors are infallible and altruistic, nothing could be further from the case. The reason many libertarians don’t trust government is because they don’t trust people in the first place. Private actors don’t get to cage people. They aren’t beatified by anyone. If a corporation negligently kills people, libertarians call for justice like anyone else. But when Amtrak kills people, liberals line up to use the event to blame a lack of funding. Had a private corporation been in the same accident, liberals would not think twice before attempting to shut them down or take them over. They would blame profiteering and greedy corporate negligence. Libertarians don’t complain when a private company accidentally kills someone that all they suffer from is a lack of funding.

#4. We aren’t irrational about things like profit and losses.

If a private corporation had crashed a train, liberals would point to its net income as a sign that they cared about money more than safety. They can point to Amtrak, a company that loses money all over the country, and argue a lack of funding. Subsidized and heavily regulated industries that operate at the behest of government are doomed to incur losses. The need for profit is a policing mechanism that isn’t allowed to do its job. Effectively, liberals create perpetual losses and then blame this outcome on a lack of funding. It’s like pouring milk down the drain and then complaining that you never have enough milk. The rational thing to do is to stop giving money to people who lose it and kill people in crashes.

#5. We believe in persuasion over punishment.

Liberals have zero respect for people who disagree with them. They want to impoverish people who don’t want to bake gay wedding cakes or approve of the things they want. Instead of seeking to reconcile with their fellow man, they seek to dominate and subjugate him to their own moral compass by lawsuit and mob justice. They are incapable of living and let live. Simply put, if they disagree with your moral reasoning, they want you to lose your reputation, go out of business, and starve. If a libertarian disagrees with you, he will let you live your life in peace and attempt to persuade you to a better position. When you force peaceful people into doing things like baking cakes against their will, you are a petty, insecure authoritarian.

#6. We aren’t authoritarians.

Liberals like to think they are the purveyors of real choice and freedom, but they’re not. They don’t want people to be free to choose, they want people to freely choose the things they want and pass laws to enforce compliance from everyone else. They have a vision of the world that can only be realized at the end of a gun and by persecuting peaceful people for their personal beliefs.

#7. We’re less likely to defriend you over political disagreements.

The data is in. Liberals are most likely to want to live in the unrealistic bubble they’ve created for themselves and which is almost entirely financed by other people.

#8. We don’t think poor people are cattle.

Libertarians believe every healthy person is capable of taking care of himself. Liberals think that past discrimination renders some people part of a herd that must be managed and directed to success. Libertarians want to get out of the way of people who want to build businesses and invest in themselves. That’s because libertarians don’t need poor people as part of a voting herd to get all the things they want. Libertarians want fewer destitute people because people with money and property are less likely to vote for things like welfare.

Liberals don’t offer anything but platitudes and guilt trips when it comes to their own policies. And lets not forget Drone Commander in Chief Obama. He can kill whomever he likes and liberals will line up to rationalize in his defense. It’s sickening. Liberals aren’t honest. If they were, then they’d admit they just want to push peaceful people around to get what they want and who cares if that means some people die or get put in jail.

#9. We don’t expect the world to take care of us.

There’s nothing more childish than not preparing for your own adult life and expecting everything to be handed to you as if it were your right. But that’s what liberals believe. Libertarians espouse a philosophy of independence and gratitude that liberals can’t even process without foaming at the mouth about selfishness as they cash their welfare checks or attend some non-falsifiable lecture at Berkeley. Expecting people to take care of you is the hallmark of greed, selfishness, and incompetence yet liberals think it is a badge of courage.

#10. We’re honest about our political solutions.

Libertarians believe in personal responsibility. When asked about things like not buying health insurance, a libertarian will give you an honest answer about what he believes and why. However, a liberal will simply try to defame libertarians and dismiss any arguments as cover for their true desire to see people destitute. Leaving aside the fact that libertarians realize destitute people are more likely to vote against them, the claim by itself is merely a lie. So are nearly all the articles at Salon and other sites that decry libertarians and their beliefs.
