Michael Burns is a member of Cop Block – a decentralized network of activists who videotape the activities of police officers to promote police accountability. A member of Cop Block Central Florida, Burns was sitting in his car filming Lakeland police when a police officer approached his vehicle.
“I had a call that you’ve been doing something in here that you should’ve been doing in private,” said the officer.
Using a non-emergency number, an unknown caller had contacted the police and said “I want to report a suspicious person… I think he’s masturbating.”
Burns alleges that the call was made by one of the police officers he’d been filming. A YouTube video recorded by Burns shows a different police officer saying that an investigation has been opened into the incident.
