Missouri Deploys Sound Cannons Against Speeders. What could possibly go wrong? (VIDEO)

“Show Me” The Stupidity

In a bid to increase highway safety, authorities in Missouri are taking the step of shooting high-intensity waves of sound at people who are allegedly speeding. The LRAD system is a “directed-sound communication device” that is normally used on the battlefield but is now being deployed on the home front.

According to MoDOT, the systems will begin being deployed near construction sites and on vehicles. The sound cannon will emit 153 decibels of noise at cars. MoDOT employee Michele Compton said, “The sound easily penetrates the windshield and well-insulated cab of a car, even overriding the vehicle’s engine sounds and a radio turned up loud enough to jam to tunes at highway speeds.”

Isn’t that wonderful?

So the idea is that you take people who are already driving at dangerous speeds, and then blast them with a wave of noise in order to terrify them into slowing down? What could possibly go wrong with blasting sonic waves at people driving two-ton, speeding death-chariots? Sounds like a brilliant plan.
