Hurricane Matthew Allows Floridians to Concealed Carry Without Permit

Recently coming to light is the fact that in 2015, Florida passed a bill allowing for the carrying of firearms during a state of emergency. This includes those who do not have a concealed carry permit. Governor Rick Scott officially declared a state of emergency on Monday due to Hurricane Matthew. This exemption applies for 48 hours after an evacuation is ordered. It can also be extended as needed by the governor.

For most libertarians, the idea of needing a “permit” to concealed carry is ludicrous. After all, the Second Amendment was designed for the precise reason of allowing private citizens to arm themselves without government encumbrances. How does it make sense that those exercising their firearm rights are required by the state to seek permission before doing so in a covert manner?

Carrying in such a way is seemingly the natural course of human behavior for those who are armed. This way, those who wish to do harm do not know who is and is not armed. This inability to predict for potential aggressors can assist in protecting communities. Furthermore, those who wish to do harm and carry a firearm in a secretive fashion will certainly not be deterred by licensing requirements.

Some progressives have perverted the first word of the phrase “concealed carry” to suggest secretive or dark plans on behalf of gun owners. However, Second Amendment supporters have instead used the term “constitutional carry” to reflect the fact that this is the very right which was to be protected by the Founding Fathers.
